Karina immigrated to Toronto to escape a life of poverty in Poland only to land into a more precarious situation. Mexican-born Lupe and her daughter, Isabel, are happily settled in Florida when Lupe’s illegal immigration rears its ugly head. Millicent has a successful career in Los Angeles until she is laid off and falls into debt and homelessness.
